Every year, on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, people take the time to kickoff the holiday season by giving back to their community. Whether it be donating money to a charitable cause or volunteering, Giving Tuesday is a day set to benefit the community by unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
As a minority small business owner who kept his business up and running during the Covid-19 pandemic, I realize that without the support network of my community, Marc Nelson Denim would not be as successful as it is going into this holiday season. I feel blessed and privileged to always count on the support of my family, friends, community leaders and business collaborators. For this reason among many others, I find it’s important for me to always pay it forward. Personally, giving back provides me a sense of purpose and fulfillment whether I donate as an individual or contribute to the collective as a business owner.
This year I have decided to extend Giving Tuesday from one day to two weeks. During this time Marc Nelson Denim will offer a denim bag for sale in-store and online. For every bag sold, I will donate $25 from the sale to the Second Harvest Food Bank here in Knoxville. My goal is to bring awareness to Second Harvest’s mission, as well as to fundraise, to fight and ultimately, end hunger in East Tennessee.
I hope my personal journey will inspire you today to join the Giving Tuesday movement and use your personal platform to give back, because now more than ever every act of generosity counts towards a better future.
Stay blessed my friends,
